THE PROBLEM OF CORRELATION OF SEISMIC REFLECTION BOUNDARIES AND GEOLOGICAL DATA
Summary
The origin of reflections under the conditions of ideally elastic and horizontally bedded environment is discussed. Subsequently, buffering properties of the rock medium were taken into account and the problem of the origin of reflections on thin beds and the effect of resulting disturbances were analysed. The analysis of the problem of concordance of seismic reflection boundaries and geological data has shown impossibility of any accurate correlation of the seismic boundaries and the geological boundaries based on borehole data, even in the case of horizontally bedded rock medium.
