Abstract
GEOTECHNICAL PROPERTIES OF FLYSCH SANDSTONES (KROSNO BEDS) IN THE LIGHT OF ACOUSTIC STUDIES
Summary
The paper ideals with the analysis of geotechnical properties of flysch sandstones. The analysis primarily concerned dynamic elasticity modulus and Poisson coefficient obtained in the course of laboratory acoustic surveys. The studies have shown that the volume density, porosity, directions of fractures, Poisson coefficient and dynamic elasticity modulus may be estimated with accuracy sufficient for preliminary recognition of geological-engineering conditions on the basis of measurements of velocity of wave propagation made on samples in the laboratory. The studies are easily repeatable, easy and accurate, do not lead to destruction of core material covered by them, make possible direct observation of rock sample studied and markedly facilitate appropriate geotechnical interpretation of studies carried out in the fields. The advantages of this method of surveying rock properties include: repeatability.
