Abstract

THE TECTONICS OF SOUTHERN LIMB OF THE MAIN ANTICLINE BETWEEN THE ZUZANNA, KSIĄŻĘCY AND PRZEMSZA FAULTS (UPPER SILESIAN COAL BASIN)

Summary
The paper presents results of the studies on tectonics of the north-eastern part of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. The geological structure of this area is mainly affected by discontinuous (disjunctive) deformations. The productive Carboniferous rocks are cut here by a network of generally normal faults. An analysis of the graphs of directions of the downthrust made it possible to distinguish 4 systems of faults. The faults of the oldest system (southern faults) are dated at the Late Carboniferous (Leonian phase), and those of the youngest system (latitudinal faults) are interpreted as consedimentary in relation to the Upper Miocene deposits. The faults of the two remaining systems (NW-SE and SW-NE oriented, respectively) originated after the Carboniferous but before the Miocene.
