Abstract

LITHOLOGY AND SEDIMENTATION OF THE RAURACIAN DEPOSITS IN THE VICINITY OF BAŁTÓW (NE OF OSTROWIEC ŚWIĘTOKRZYSKI)

Summary
On the detailed palaeontological, ecological, lithologic-facial and petrographical studies, the author discusses more in detail the reef sedimentation of the Rauracian deposits occurring in the vicinity of Bałtów. These studies led to a conclusion that both organogenic and organodetrital deposits of Rauracian at Bałtów are shallow-water coral reefs of table type. These reefs rose under the conditions of subtropical and tropical climate, in the near-shore zone of an partly isolated marine basin.
Author discusses morphology, internal structure, lithological and faunal differentiations in both the perpendicular and the horizontal directions as to the individual stages of development of a reef as well as a zoning of deposits characteristic of each reef.
The profile of the Rauracian deposits at Bałtów may be regarded as a classical example of a buried coral reef, in Poland.
