Abstract

POSITION OF ENGINEERING GEOLOGY IN THE SYSTEM OF SCIENCES

Summary
The engineering geology relies upon the fundamental sciences, to wit: petrography, dynamic geology, geophysics, geohydrology, stratigraphy and Quaternary geology, regional geology, founding and architecture, as well as on the economical bases of regional constructing. Having characteristic and typical area of study and its own research methods, the engineering geology represents an independent branch of geological sciences. The engineering geology is engaged in studies of geological environment, its changeability and evolution for the regional planning, as well as in projecting the performance and exploitation of building objects. Regional engineering geology, engineering geodynamics, soil science, soil mechanics and geotechnics are sections of the engineering geology. The geotechnics - being engaged in making practical the results of engineering-geological investigations or elaboration and realization of means necessary for counteracting against the injurious phenomena, as well as of increasing the useful geological and engineering-geological phenomena - cannot be regarded as a synonym of the engineering geology there.
