Abstract

DRIFT BLOCKS OF CHALK IN THE VICINITY OF DĄBROWA

Summary
The chalk occurs in the Białystok region in the three localities, viz.: in the vicinity of Dąbrowa, where 15 sites of its occurrence have been recorded, in the area SW of Białystok - at Łupianka and Suraż - and N of Mielnik, at Radziłłówka.
This report comprises results of investigations carried on in the Dąbrowa vicinity. The geological surveys and cross sections point at the fact, that the chalk occurs here in shape of drift blocks resting amidst the Quaternary deposits. The micropalaeontological investigations prove the age of this chalk to be the Turonian and the upper Campian.
From the depositional point of view, the chalk of the Dąbrowa region does not represent a material of any value, with regard to a small amount of resources, which do not exceed 20 000 tons. However, because its good quality (contents of CaCO3 amounts up to 98.32%), it may be used on a smaller scale by the local industry.
