Abstract

SEDIMENTARY CYCLES IN THE ZECHSTEIN OF THE LOWER SILESIA AREA

Summary
On the basis of investigations concerning the facial and palaeogeographical conditions existing in the northsudetic Zechstein, and of comparative observations of the subsudetic Zechstein, the author briefly presents the lithological succession of strata. Simultaneously, he stresses the role of terrygenic and chemical rocks in this process. In his report the author presents the lithostratigraphical comparison of the Kaczawa Zechstein with that of the foresudetic area and of the Łużyce basin. The author also confirms that the Zechstein of the Lower Silesia may be subdivided into four sedimentary cyclothems. Moreover, he proves the unreasonableness of three stage subdivision of the Zechstein, existing up to now, as well as the unreasonableness of criteria concerning subdivision of the lower Zechstein. Finally, the author draws some palaeogeographical conclusions and underlines the fact that area of northsudetic trough has, during the Zechstein period, not been a separate bay bordered by a continent from the northeast.
