Abstract

METHODS OF GEOPHYSICAL INVESTIGATIONS OF COVERED REGIONS ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE NORTHEASTERN AREA OF POLAND Summary Author discusses the methods of geophysical investigations used for detachment of the general tectonical elements in the north-eastern area of Poland. Along with the materials available, for this purpose the regional magnetic and gravimetric surveys were used at first and in the last years the results of seismic works were applied. Only the magnetic surveys yielded numerous interpretation data as in respect of depth as of pre-Cambrian crystalline substratum as wen as of Lower Cambrian (ev. Eocambrian). The interpretation of data was facilitated by the comparison of these with a gravimetrical illustration. However, the first trials of presentation of old crystalline substratum morphology were little satisfactory; during the next tests already the seismic and refraction data were used. Author presents a morphological map of the refraction horizon said, elaborated by himself in 1960. For the areas, where such investigations were not carried out, he gives his own earlier (1958) tectonical and depth interpretation. Besides the area well characterized by numerous refraction shootings, mainly for the region of shallow refraction horizon mentioned above, author discusses also the division of marginal zone of platform and characterizes the genesis of magnetic anomalies in this zone as wen as the connections of deep old tectonic breaks with the anticlinal type structures of different age of Chojnice, Kock and of the Wyszogród region. Although the map presented concerns the morphology of the horizon not altogether equally determined in geological sense, it allows however, to plot the tectonical scheme of the pre-Cambrian crystalline substratum of north-eastern Poland.
