Abstract

PROSPECTION OF LIME-CEMENT RAW MATERIALS IN THE VICINITY OF OSTROWIEC ŚWIĘTOKRZYSKI AND OŻARÓW

Summary
In the area north of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski and Ożarów there occur rich, not yet utilized deposits of lime raw materials of a very high quality. They are related to the Jurassic, the deposits of which belong in this area to the north-eastern Mesozoic marginal area of the Święty Krzyż Mts. The deposits of the Kimmeridge were studied by the “Solvay” Enterprise, Warsaw in 1939 and by the Geological Institute in 1948. As a result of these investigations the deposits were classified as raw materials for cement production with regard to the dolomitization of marls making up the large portion of the rock.
In 1958, in this area the investigations were conducted, particularly on the Astartian and Rauracian deposits. As a result of those, two large limestone deposits were distinguished, viz.: Struża and Ruda Kościelna (Figs. 1 and 2). Moreover the studies are carried on in the area of Ostrowiec to find some suitable quantities of clays that mixed with limestones might serve for the cement production.
