Abstract

MAIN TRENDS OF PROSPECTIONS FOR POTASSIUM-MAGNESIUM SALTS IN POLAND

Summary
The potassium salts known up to now in Poland are of the Upper Permian age i.e. of the Zechstein one. In the background of facies map of the Zechstein basin (Fig. 1) the author considers the prospecting possibilities of these salts.
The potassium salts occur within the rock salt in the middle facies field (salt-bearing field) at the average depth, too great, however, to mine out, amounting 2000 m. Within this field these salts are also to be found at a small depth, namely within the salt domes, however, under less advantageous conditions for mining.
It seems to be probable that within some portions of the middle potassium-bearing field the bedded deposits (in form of meds and layers) occur at the deposits (in form of beds and layers) occur at the author marks out such parts (A, B, C, D) on the map of saline deposits basin (Fig. 1), showing the main trends of prospections.
The possibilities of potassium salt occurrence outside the Zechstein basin in Poland are not excluded. As regards this problem, first of all, one should take into consideration the Miocene salt-bearing formation in the Carpathian foreland area.
