Abstract

ON REGISTRATION AND INSPECTION OF MONUMENT STONES

Summary
In XIX-th century St. Staszic, B. Pusch and J. Siemiradzki were interested in erratic blocks. The first descriptions of erratic blocks were made at the begining of XX-th century.
A visible circle and hight of an erratic block should be features determinating approximately its size. Results of registration works executed by Muzeum Ziemi (Museum of Earth) are given here in general outline. Particular stress of these works was made to the Mazowsze and Podlasie regions. The greatest erratic block known in that area is situated in Wólka Kamienna (Siedlce county). It is 17 m in circle and 1,8 m high. Ice transported sandstone block in Zawady near Mszczonów of 36 m in circle is also worthy of note. The greatest erratic block in Szczecin voivodship is situated in Krzymów (Chojno county). Its circle is 25 m.
