ON PRESERVATION OF NATURE MONUMENTS
Summary
A definition of nature monuments is here given. It is an unique or rare natural object of scientific or didactic value. Several examples of nature monuments occurring within Polish national parks also separate nature monuments are given. There are over 1000 nature monuments up to date registrated in Poland.
The author gives also some historical information on nature preservation in Poland. Systematic nature preservation has begun in 1920 (National Commission and later National Council of Nature Preservation). A special Commission of Nature Preservation was appointed in 1926 attached to the State Geological Institute. Since 1928 results of its activities were published in: Monuments de la nature inanimée de la République Polonaise. In 1932 activity of that commission and publication of its works was carried out by Museum of Earth.
