Abstract
THE LOWER CRETACEOUS TERRESTRIAL STRATA NW FROM ŚWIĘTY KRZYŻ MTS
Summary
Recent conclusions about the sedimentation and stratigraphy of a thick complex of arenaceous sediments was discussed. The complex is underlain by stratigraphicaly determined marls of spongiolithes of Lower Albian, and covered by dark coloured Hauterivian strata, that not always are palaeontologicaly dated. The previous writers considered the presence of glauconite as desisive and described the terrestrial Lower Albian; Aptian or Barremian. The comparison of profiles, however caused some important changes in that interpretation.
The possibility of correlation between the described sediments and those from the Polish Lowland; as well as the variation in presence of galuconite in many bore holes, contrasting with its widespreading in Pagórki (from Hauterivian to Upper Albian) is the proof of marine sedimentation of the complex. The Middle Albian was established because of their transgresive feature (corse grained sandstones, some times conglomeratic) and vertical position of strata. The sources of clastic material in the Middle Albian were: sediments of weathered cristalline shield; eroded Neocomian sediments; and Świętokrzyskie Mts.
