Abstract

CHARACTERISTIC OF GLACITECTONIC FOLDINGS IN TUROSZÓW (LOWER SILESIA) Summary In the Turoszów Coal Basin, situated between Żytawa and Zgorzelec, within the upper series of the brown coal Miocene the strongly folded clayey and lignitic deposits occur. On the basis of the detailed analysis of individual folds it was determined that tectonic disturbances, plotted in Figs. 1-6, were caused by directional pressure of glacier masses which moved from the East to the West. At place of the strongest pressure of glacier distant approximately 100 m from the pre-glacial valley of Nysa Łużycka river – squeezing and big folds af amplitude amounting to about 12-15 m have been originated. With regard to the fact that the long axes of individual folds are parallel to the Nysa Łużycka pre-valley, it has been confirmed that at the time of folding, the valley could have not been covered by glacier which was then stopped by distinct narrowness called Łużyce Gate.
