Abstract

AGE OF THE NIEWACHLÓW GREYWACKES AND SHALES FROM WIDEŁKI NEAR BARDO (HOLY CROSS MTS)

Summary
Upper Silurian rocks in Widełki near Bardo (southern Holy Cross Mts) have been investigated. The 8-10 m thick deposit sequence, composed of siltstones and mud. stones, named the Widełki shales, overlays the 50 m thick Niewachlów greywackes. The shales contain the material of volcanic origin indicating sedimentation continuity after the greywackes. The fauna of ostracods and graptolites indicates upper Ludlovian age of the Widełki shales. This age data suggests that the Niewachlów greywacke has originated during a very short time at the Lower Upper Ludlovian boundary. Shales terminate the Old-Paleozoic succession in the Klimontów anticlinorium area. The Niewachl6w greywackes and Widełki shales can not be identified as synorogenic deposits.
