Abstract

CALC-SINTERS IN EARLY MEDIEVAL ARCHITECTURE FROM THE WIELKOPOLSKA AND KUJAWY REGIONS Summary This work presents the results of comparative ,petrographic studies of calc-sinters, found at the Pakoskie Lake (near Trląg village) and of sinters, used in the Romanesque buildings from the Wielkopolska region. Three sinter types were distinguished: granular, biolithic and biolithic-granular ones. It was found that in the Wielkopolska and Kujawy regions have existed favoured conditions for calc-sinter accumulation. These sediments have formed abundant small deposits but most of them are completely exploited nowadays. The Holocene calc-sinter from Trląg has been used in the early medieval buildings in Ostrów Lednicki, Gniezno, Trzemeszno and Mogilno. The provenience of sinter, used in the church from Lubiń near Gostyń, is unknown.
