Abstract

CALLOVIAN AND OXFORDIAN DEPOSITS FROM THE BEŁCHATÓW OPEN PIT

Summary
In southern wall of the Bełchatow pit were found limestones and marls dated according amonite fauna for Lower (sublevel bukowskii of cordatum level) and Middle (levels: plicatilis and transversarium) Oxfordian. The siltstones with chalcedonies, visible nearby, were referred to Callovian due to their facial development and occurrence between faunal documented Bathonian and Lower Oxfordian deposits. Comparison of studied deposits with other ones of similar age from adjacent regions indicated that from Callovian till Middle Oxfordian on area of later Bełchatow graben has existed marine basin with greater depth and more intensive subsidence than surrounding regions. This was concluded due to greater thickness of described lithostratigraphic units and their facial dissimilarity. The differences were best visible in profile of Callovion and Lower Oxfordian deposits. From Upper Oxfordian the facies from all studied" areas have became more and more uniform.
