Współczesna paleosejsmologia i neotektonika Polski
Abstract
PALEOSEISMICITY AND NEOTECTONICS OF POLAND Summary Quaternary tectonics of Poland manifests itself, among other features, in the form of young faults and graben-like structures of throws ranging from 50 to more than 120 m. These faults occur mainly in Central and South Poland and coincide, to a large extent, with photolineaments that frequently correlate with recent and historic seismicity. Although average rates of Quaternary slip do not exceed 0,05 mm/yr, a figure typical for inactive or low-activity faults, the sequences of fault-related colluvial wedges, associated subordinate tectonic structures and morphologic parameters of fault-line scarps provide opportunity for the application of paleoseismological techniques that would enable one to estimate magnitudes and average displacement per event. Sedimentological analysis of stacks of colluvial wedges, as well as diffusion modelling and statistical processing of scarp parameters seem to be particularly promising.Issue
