Abstract

EXTENT AND CORRELATIONS OF MAIN GROUPS OF THE TERTIARY LIGNITE SEAMS ON POLISH PLATFORM AREA

Summary
Maps of extent of main Tertiary lignite seams on the Polish Lowlands were drawn basing on numerous geological data. Extents of seams in Middle Eocene (VI Group), Lower Oligocene (V Group), Lower (IV and II Groups) and Middle Miocene (I Group) were indicated. The Tertiary lignite-bearing deposits occupy area of about 101.155 square kilometers on the Polish Lowlands. This area mainly consists of extent areas of I and II Groups of lignite seams (respectively: 70.203 km2 and 61.132 km2), partly overlaped. Analysis of these maps gave new data about paleogeography of the Tertiary on the Polish Lowlands. Such maps enable identification and correlation of lignite seams influencing significantly on "basic" and raw minerals investigations. They also could be applied in territory planning and for protection of mineral deposit areas.
