Abstract

THE STUDIES IN POLISH EPIPLATFORM PERMIAN AND THEIR RELATION TO THE OCCURRENCE OF MINERAL RAW MATERIALS

Summary

The rapid developments in studies of the Permian deposits in platform areas of Poland are related to search and studies of copper ores, rock and potassium salt, oil and gas deposits. Specially intensified works followed the discovery of copper ore deposits in the Lubin-Sieroszowice region in Lower Silesia in 1957, which are one of the greatest in the world, numerous, gas and oil fields and potassium salt deposits. The drillings, geophysical surveys and complex studies (mainly lithofacies, stratigraphical, sedimentological, petrographical and geochemical studies) of Permian rocks were mainly connected with the search of gas and oil fields and copper ore deposits. A remarkable progress was also made in paleogeography and paleotectonics.
The paper presents the main achievements of the studies. The studies made it possible to reconstruct geological setting of mineral raw material deposits occurring in the Permian and they markedly contributed to increase in effectiveness of the search. The paleogeographic studies were found to be highly important as their results made it possible to define new perspective areas of gas and oil fields and metal ore deposits.
