Subsequent Variscan volcanism is known from the Lower Silesia (Mid- and Inner Sudetic basins), Paleozoic Platform (Fore-Sudetic Monocline and Baltic part of the western Pomerania), Silesian-Cracow region and East-European Platform in Poland. It was the most intensive in western Poland, where two or three volcanic cycles may be differentiated. The cycles begin with basic lavas (basalts) and end with acid ones (rhyolites), often being accompanied by tuffs. They were initiated by material of mantle origin (basalts) which caused mobilization of sedimentary material of the Earth crust (rhyolites). The volcanic rocks underwent regional albitization during the next stage. The source of albitization is assumed to be related to a hot spot. The Autunian volcanism may be responsible for enrichment of sea water in sodium salts which, under favorable paleogeographic and climatic conditions, resulted in formation of rich halite deposits of the Zechstein.
