Abstract

NEW DATA ON SILURIAN DEPOSITS FROM THE VICINITIES OF MRZYGŁÓD-ZAWIERCIE

Summary
In the Mrzygłód-Zawiercie area, Silurian deposits are represented by clay shales, siltstones, sandstones (greywacke, arcosic and polymictic sandstones) and conglomerats. Two rocks complexes are differentiated here: lower, clay-siltstone with sandstone intercalations (Lower Ludlowian?), and upper, consisting of clay-sandy-conglomeratic rocks with predominance of sandstones (Upper Ludlow?). Detrital material of sandstones and conglomerates is highly diversified, consisting of quartz, potassium feldspars, plagioclases, micas, and fragments of igneous (alkaline granites, rhyolites, bestonites, dacites, trachytes and diabases), sedimentary (siltstones, clay and siliceous rocks) and metamorphic (quartz-chlorite and quartz-feldspar-biotite rocks and quartzites) rocks. Ore minerals represented by sulphides and oxides of metals are omnipresent components of these rocks. Silurian deposits are cut by dikes and subvolcanic rocks (rhyolites, bestonites, dacites and diabases).
