Abstract

GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES IN THE TRAINING OF MINING ENGINEERS

Summary
The relations between geological sciences and mining are dated back to the beginning of exploitation and use of mineral raw materials. These relations were changing in result of developments in mining techniques in the past but they still remain close as deposit forming rocks are both the subject and the work environment for a miner and the geological conditions determine possibilities of efficient and safe work. It follows, therefore, that the geological sciences should be given a sufficient place in the programme for training mining engineers. In the last years, however, there is a marked trend to expulsion of the geological sciences from the programme. This problem is analysed in the present paper.
