Abstract

VARIABILITY IN COPPER MINERALIZATION IN THE POLKOWICE DEPOSIT PROFILE

Summary
The statistical analysis of variability in copper content in the vertical profile of the deposit was made on the basis of results of sampling. Distribution curves were plotted and basic statistical parameters (arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and variability coefficient) were calculated for 20 cm layers differentiated in the course of sampling. Figures 1-3 show the results of studies. Distribution curves are differentiated and their polymodal nature evidences complex multiphase mineralization process. The mineralization is most intense in shales, ceasing in both overlying dolomites and underlying sandstones along with increase in distance from the shales. The analysis of distribution curves and differentiation in mean Copper content suggests that we are dealing here with syngenetic mineralization (in shales and dolomites) and infiltrational-diagenetic mineralization overprinted on the former. The mineralization found in sandstones is presumably of infiltrational character. The analysis of differentiation in mean copper content and variability coefficients made it possible to state that the intensity and variability of mineralization also depend on lithological character of mineralized rocks.
