Abstract

SALT DEPOSITS IN THE VICINITIES OF WOJNICZ UPON DUNAJEC RIVER Summary An attempt was made to construct the cross-section through Miocene saliferous formation between Wojnicz and Tarnów on the basis of core material and borehole data of the Petroleum Prospecting Enterprise and Geological Institute from Cracow. The studies were aimed at reconstruction of profile of salt deposit at Sierakowice in the N-5 regional cross-section (Fig. 1). It is the attempt to reconstruct the deposit profile on the basis of views of K. Skoczylas-Ciszewska and J. Poborski on the tectonics of the saliferous Podkarpacie. The subdivision of the Badenian saliferous formation, used by salt geologists after J. Poborski, is accepted here. The attention is drawn to facies changes of the member with evaporites. Petrophysical properties of rocks of the evaporite-bearing member which bear decisive influence on their mechanic behaviour in tectonic processes change along with facies. The geological relations in the cross-section through the vicinities of Wojnicz and, on their basis, the setting of the salt deposit are explained with the reference to a general sketch of the tectonics of the Podkarpacie region (Fig. 2). The salt deposit from Sierakowice originated in the overthrusted saliferous formation in result of tectonic processes connected with overthrusting of Carpathian flysch series on Badenian saliferous formation (Fig. 3). The deposit occurs in the area about l km wide and 3-4 km long at the depth over 1200 m. It is characterized by a complex fold structure, a large thickness, and fairly high content of NaCl.
