Abstract

RADIOACTIVE ANOMALY OF FORESUDETIC LOESSES AS A RESULT OF EOLIAN TRANSPORT OF URANIUM SERIES ELEMENTS (SW POLAND)

Summary

Loesses of Sudetic Foreland are the most radioactive Quaternary sediments of the area. They are significantly more radioactive than any glacial sediments transported from the north. Their radioactivity is comparable with Miocene clays derived from Sudetes. Published spectrometric results [14] and radon 222Rn content measurements indicate that increased radioactivity is conected with uranium series elements. Gamma radiation of loesses increases southwards which suggests transport of uranium-bearing sediments from Sudetes. Radon emanation of loesses is significant due to their porosity and few times greater than of Miocene clays.
