Abstract

SEDIMENTARY ENVIRONMENT OF THE ROTLIEGENDES OF THE RAWICZ AREA

Summary
The studies of the Rotliegendes in the Rawicz region, Fore-Sudetic Monocline, made it possible to differentiate the upper stage of the Rotliegendes throughout this region. The upper stage is underlain by the lower in western part of this region. The paper presents an attempt to reconstruct sedimentary environment of rocks of that stage and evidence their deposition in continental environment. The rocks, especially older cherry-red siltstones passing into sandstones and conglomeratic sandstones, represent products of fluvial-lacustrinal deposition. Fine-grained sandstones are of desert origin, being deposited by eolian processes and seasonal rivers. Top parts of white sandstones (Weissligendes) should be assigned to the Zechstein but the discrimination cannot be based on colour of these rocks.
