Abstract

ISOTOPIC COMPOSITION OF CARBON AND OXYGEN IN LIMESTONES OF THE LUBLIN HIGHLAND

Summary
Isotopic composition of carbon and oxygen of sedimentary limestones may be used as geological parameter supplementing paleontological and petrographic criteria in reconstruction of sedimentary environment. In Poland, such studies of carbonate rocks were initiated by the Lublin mass spectrometry group in 1971-1972. The present studies, covering selected samples of limestones from the Lublin Highland, were aimed at tracing differences in isotopic composition of Tertiary and Cretaceous limestones. The studies covered sedimentary limestone layers occurring at the southern margin of the Lublin Highland and representing groundwater aquifer. The paper presents the results obtained.
