Abstract

GEOCHEMISTRY OF MINERALIZATION OF THE DICTYONEMA SHALES IN NORTH-EASTERN POLAND

Summary
The paper deals with the Dictyonema shales of north-eastern Poland, especially their origin and mineralization. The problem of mineralization of the shales also comprises the question of source of uranium and other metals. Deposits connected with the shales may be analysed as potential deposits of both uranium and other metals, providing that they originated in uranium-bearing province.
The Dictyonema shales of NE Poland are characterized by anomalously high content of uranium as well as enrichment in metallic elements such as Zn, Cu, Ni, Co, Pb, and Ag. They were derived from sea water, to which a part of them came from weathering of land areas and the other - from metal-bearing exhalations or volcanic ashes. The geochemistry of mineralization of these shales is generally characterized by stabilization of the association U-Mo-Co-Ag-Pb-As.
