Abstract

PROBLEMS OF GENESIS AND INTERPRETATION OF MORPHOLOGY OF THE MIDDLE AND LOWER VISTULA RIVER VALLEY Summary The paper deals with the section of the Vistula River valley, from Zawichost to ostiary. The morphogenesis of this section was reconstructed and appropriate scheme for structural interpretation of geomorphological units infilling the valley was selected. The scheme takes into account those of the recorded regularities in origin of the units which may be accurately defined. It was found that the rivers predominating in the Polish Lowlands belong to the type characterized by adjustment of channel course to depressions in terrain surface shaped by the icesheet. Further studies should make it possible accurate recognition of genesis and interpretation of morphology of the Middle and Lower Vistula valley for estimating hydrogeological and engineering-geological conditions.
