Abstract

THE ROLE OF HYDROGEOLOGICAL SURVEYS AND PROGNOSES FOR THE NEEDS OF AGRICULTURE AT THE BACKGROUND OF COMPLEX USE OF WATER RESOURCES OF THE VISTULA RIVER AND ITS CATCHMENT AREA Summary The paper presents programme of technical overbuilding of the Vistula River and catchment areas for the needs of agriculture, especially melioration works and water supply for agriculture and villages. Positive and negative effects of hydrotechnical structures and melioration systems on groundwater in adjoining areas are discussed. The analysis of the present state of studies and hydrogeological prognoses made for needs of water construction and melioration showed that it is unsatisfactory. It is concluded that the range of hydrogeological and prognostic studies should be markedly widened. The studies should be carried out in three phases, corresponding to the stages of design, realization and exploitation of water and melioration structures.
