Abstract
WATER CIRCULATION ROUTES IN GLACIERS OF THE HORNSUND FIORD AREA
Summary
The Polish glaciological studies in Svalbard have a long tradition and remarkable scientific achievements. They were concentrated on the Hornsund Fiord area, southern Svalbard (A. Jahn, 1979, J. Szupryczyński, 1978).
In the last years, the Hornsund Fiord area and some of its glaciers were covered by intense glaciological and meteorological studies carried out by scientific expeditions of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Wrocław and Śląski Universities. The Polish Scientific Station at Isbjornhamn, Hornsund, was used as the major base for these expeditions. The recognition of water regime of the• glaciers was an important part of the studies on glacial dynamics and regime. The present author had an opportunity to trace water circulation routes in some glacier;s of the Hornsund area. The paper presents the obtained results with the reference to the results of studies carried out by other Polish researches.
