Abstract

DIRECTIONS OF THE PLEISTOCENE ICE-SHEET ADVANCES IN THE NORTHERN MARGIN OF THE STRZEGOM HILLS, SUDETIC FORELAND (SW POLAND)

Summary
The paper describes two sites with tills in the Sudetic Foreland, SW Poland: Mściwojów and Jaroszów, both in the northern foreland of Strzegom Hills. Two lower tills well correlates with the Elsterian tills of the Silesian Lowland. The youngest till, most probably from older Saalian stage, is characterized by a predominance of local rocks and it can not be correlated by gravel petrography with any till in the Silesian Lowland. Regional glacial transport during Elsterian was from NW to SE northwards from Strzegom Hills, similarly to Silesian Lowland, but more southwards it was diagonal or perpendicular to the main direction: from N, NNE and NE. The palaeotransport during older Saalian was generally from NE in both regions
