Abstract
LITHOLOGY AND STRATIGRAPHY OF CENOZOIC DEPOSITS IN KONIN NEIGHBOURHOOD (CENTRAL POLAND)
Summary
A characteristic geological feature of the Konin region is the shallow depth of its Mesozoic rocks. The palaeorelief of the top surface of the Mesozoic is of a polygenetic character. It is marked by vast, valley-type depresions of erosional origin, as well as by grabens (cf. Fig. 1). Tectonic activity took place in that area not only in the Tertiary but also during the Quaternary period (cf. Fig, 2 and 3). Cenozoic deposits are noted here for their substantial differences in thickness, as well as for their stratigraphic completeness (cf. Fig, 3 and 4). Thick Tertiary series were deposited from Middle Paleocene to Late Miocene. Within the Quaternary sediments, series of three cold periods have been distinguished: the South Polish Glaciations, the Middle Polish Glaciations, and the North Polish Glaciations. Similarly series of two warm periods, those of Great Interglacial and of the Eemian Interglacial have been encountered
