Abstract

SIGNIFICANCE OF MOLLUSK FAUNA FROM ORTEL KRÓLEWSKI AND ROSSOSZ SITES FOR THE QUATERNARY STRATIGRAPHY OF PODLASIE (EAST POLAND) Summary Paleontological sites at Ortel Królewski and Rossosz (south vicinity of Biała Podlaska, East Poland) - Fig.1-3, were examined from palinologic, faunistic and petrographic points of view. The deposits with mollusks belong to Mazovian Interglacial and the outcrop in Ortel Krolewski is one of the reachest site of Viviparus diluvianus (Kunth) in Europe. This species as well as Lithoglyphus jahni Urbanski were extinct at the and of Mazovian Interglacial. The geological sections (Figs. 4-7) demonstrate that the sediments of Mazovian Interglacial with mollusks are very common in the region. Termoluminescence show decreased values when compared to the results of palinologic and faunistic examinations
