Summary
The coral diversification pattern differs from the one for all marine animals in decreasing of genera number during the Carboniferous and the Late Tertiary (Fig. 1). Both compound corals as well as solitary ones have strikingly similar diversification profiles for the Phanerozoic (Fig. 2).
