Abstract

PARAGENESIS OF PHOSPHORITE-BEARING AND EVAPORITE FORMATIONS DURING THE PHANEROZOIC Summary The problem of relations between phosphorite-bearing and evaporite formations has been repeatedly discussed during the last two decades. Evolution of evaporate formations in Phanerozoic and its relation to the chemical composition of marine water [8, 10] makes possible to re-consider this problem. The results are summarized in Fig. 1 that includes the data on cooccurrence of phosphorite-bearing and evaporite formations. It was concluded that there exists a direct relation between the intensity of evaporite and phosphorite-bearing carbonate accumulations during the Phanerozoic. This relation is even more clear for sedimentary basins in which marine waters were of chlorine-calcium type. The study was partly supported by International Science Foundation, grant no. VCMOOO.
