Abstract

REPTILE TRACKS IN THE LOWERMOST BUNTSANDSTEIN NEAR OSTROWIEC ŚWIĘTOKRZYSKI (CENTRAL POLAND)

Summary
The exploration of the widely known in geological literature outcrop at DoIy Opacie, revealed well preserved vertebrate tracks described here in as Procolophonichnium sp. Triassic deposits of the quarry are rich in various sedimentary structures and invertebrate traces but they are lacking any body fossils. The track-bearing slab came from the lowermost part of the Buntsandstein profile, 1.S m above its lower boundary. Vertebrate track assemblages may be helpful in the stratigraphical correlation of terrestrial deposits. Such discovery makes the possibility to determine the chronostratigraphical position of the lowermost part of Buntsandstein.
