Abstract
NATURAL AGGREGATES IN THE UPPER ODRA RIVER VALLEY AND ADJOINING AREAS Summary The geological setting of natural aggregate deposits in the Upper Odra River valley and adjoining areas is discussed and their quality and usability are analysed along with the state of recognition and perspectives of increase of their resources. The analysis has been carried out taking into account the question of natural environment protection. In the area of the Upper Odra River valley, gravels and sands of economic value are related to Mid-Polish Glaciation and Holocene series. Independently of their age and origin, the deposits are generally of high economic value and they may be used in building industry and road and railway building. However, the hitherto recorded deposits and perspective areas are usually covered with soils and forests requiring protection. This makes it necessary to concentrate exploitation in areas already changed or planned to be changed, e.g. Racibórz water reservoir or Kotlarnia open-cast mine of stowing sands. The high natural significance of the Upper Odra River area for Upper Silesian urban and industrial centers should be taken in to account in exploitation of the natural aggregate deposits.Downloads
