Abstract

CATODOLUMINESCENCE IN STUDIES ON CARBONATE ROCKS

Summary
The catodoluminescence method of studying rocks and preparates, with which the present author became acquinted in the course of his stay at the Ruhr-Universitat in Bochum thanks to the A. V. Humbolt fellowship, becomes more and more widely used as supplementary for analyses of thin sections under petrographic microscope.
The review of literature and the presented examples (photos taken by Dr. U. Zinkernagel, Bochum) show that possibilities to use that method in sedimentology are fairly large, despite of the fact that processes governing catodoluminescence phenomena in carbonate rocks are still unknown. The catodoluminescence method is especially important for studies on evolution of pore space and reconstruction of original structure of a rock.
