Abstract

LITHOLOGICAL DIFFERENTIATION OF MUDS IN SELECTED SECTIONS OF THE VISTULA RIVER VALLEY Summary In the course of studies aimed at obtaining full characteristics of physico-mechanical and mineralogical properties of muds in area of Poland, a marked differentiation of these properties was found. The data given in Table 1 show marked differentiation in lithology of the studied muds form selected areas in the Vistula River valley. The differentiation was found both in the case of muds coming from different parts (areas) of the valleys and different parts of a given section. The variability in lithology appears due to several factors, the most important of which include: a) the mode of development of river valley, expressed in origin of valley sections representing different morphological types, b) the mode of development of river channel, and c) geological-lithological character of alimentary areas of a given section of river valley.
