Abstract

OIL AND GAS POTENTIAL OF DEEP-SEATED HORIZONS Summary The possibilities of search for oil and gas accumulations at depths over 4000 m are discussed. The perspectives of discoveries of deep-seated hydrocarbon deposits are presented along with analysis of technical difficulties and costs of the search. The comparisons of oil- and gas-bearing basins from various parts of the world are accompanied by discussions on the origin of hydrocarboil deposits, their structure and tectonics and reservoir properties of rocks. After analysis data concerning oil and gas potential of deep-seated (at 4-8 km depths) rock formations, there are presented 9 major conclusions. It follows from the conclusions that Polish part of the Permian Basin is perspective from the point of view of search for gas and even oil deposits but at depths greater than 4000 m.
