Abstract

GRANULOMETRIC COMPOSITION OF LOESS COVER DEPOSITS IN NOWA HUTA AND ITS VICINITIES

Summary
On the basis of results of granulometric analyses of 1198, carried out in accordance with Polish building normatives, 13 major types of inorganic soils (Fig. 1) and 6 types of organic soils were recognized. Changes in granulometric composition of the loess cover deposits were found to be regular in both vertical (Tables I and Il) and lateral directions as deposits from highland appeared different in granulometric composition from those from river terrace (Fig. 2; Tables III-VI). The knowledge of regularities in changes in granulometric composition facilitates subdivision of the loess cover into spatial homogeneous engineering-geological units, thus contributing to the progress in further studies and reduction of costs of engineering-geological surveys and expertises.
