AN ATTEMPT TO USE A NEW GRAIN-SIZE STATISTIC INDEX IN GRANULOMETRIC STUDIES
Summary
A new statistical granulation index, proposed in this paper, appears simpler and more universal than the hitherto used index of D.J. Doeglas (1968). The new index (Mz, σ1 SkI, KG) has the form of a series of four whole numbers, giving information on mean grain size, standard deviation, as well as skeweness and kurtosis of grain-size distribution. It gives objective information on nature of structure of deposits and sedimentary conditions and it may be useful in discrimination and classification of heterogenic deposits.
