Abstract

UPPER CRETACEOUS SANDSTONES OF THE NORTH-SUDETIC DEPRESSION AS A POTENTIAL RAW MATERIAL FOR GLASS INDUSTRY

Summary
The paper presents results of studies on granulation and content of major oxides in Coniacian sandstones of the North-Sudetic Depression. The sandstones were found to match requirements of raw materials tor glass industry in granulation as the content of basic glass-industry traction is up to 90 weight % and that of the specific fraction - up to 80 weight %. The sandstones are about 40 m thick so their resources are giant. There are delineated live areas in which the sandstones crop out at the surtace or occur at very shallow depth. Comparisons show that sandstones occurring in these areas are characterized by granulation more advantageous than in proven deposits in the Osiecznica area. The content of colouring: oxides and clays is too high for use of sandstones in glass industry without preliminary treatment.
