Abstract

RESULTS OF MICROFAUNISTIC .STUDIES ON RUPELIAN SEDIMENTS IN BOREHOLE COLUMN GOLENIÓW IG-2

Summary
A rich assemblage of microfauna of the Rupelian age has been found in core material from the Goleniów IG-2 borehole (Szczecin region, Polish Lowlands). In the borehole column, there were differentiated a tower horizon with fish remains (presumably Eocene-Oligocene passage beds), the Ceratobulimina contraria biozone which corresponds to the Lower Rupelian, upper horizon with fish remains, and the Rotaliatina bulimoides biozone, indicative of the Upper Rupelian. The biostratigraphic zones are comparable with biozones established in the Rupelian of the western Europe. The recorded microfaunistic assemblages were found to be of stratigraphic value and useful as indices of ecological changes which were taking place in the Rupelian reservoir in individual phases of its development. Full coring in this drilling makes the recorded succession usable as a reference section of the Rupełian in the Szczecin region.
