Abstract

ON THE ORIGIN OF TROUGH STRUCTURES IN THE MESOZOIC- CENOZOIC COMPLEX IN THE POLISH LOWLANDS Summary The geological structure of trough forms present in the Mesozoic-Cenozoic complex in Polish part of the Zechstein Basin is characterized and the hitherto presented views on their origin are discussed. Taking into account analogy to other sedimentary basins, in which origin of negative structures in supra-salt sedimentary stages is explained in terms of salt karst phenomena, and underground salt leaching processes currently taking place in the GDR and some data indicating development of such processes also in Poland, the authors made an attempt to explain in the same way the origin of trough structures in supra-salt sedimentary cover in the Polish Lowlands. Trough zones were also analysed from the point of view of search for oil to find them highly perspective, especially in the case of the Rotliegendes and Main Dolomite (Zechstein). The study is illustrated with sketch map of distribution of the troughs at the background of major geological elements in north-western part of the Pomeranian anticlinorium and seismic profiles through the troughs.
