Abstract

NEW DATA ON THE POSITION OF THE UPPER RZEPIN STAGE IN THE WYDRYSZÓW ANTICLINE (HOLY CROSS MTS)

Summary
The paper presents petrographic characteristics of rocks of the Rzepin stage, hitherto regarded as the uppermost Silurian in the Wydryszów anticline (Fig. 5), northern slope of the Holy Cross Mts. Rocks forming lower parts of that stage (Fig. 1) were found to be represented by mudstone-sandstone ones, with composition of lithic arenites (Fig. 3), and those forming the upper parts (Fig. 2) - by arenites and subarenites as well as limestones with marked admixture of detrital material, the same as in arcosic arenites (Fig. 3). The latter rock complex, hitherto dated at upper part of the Rzepin stage, Silurian (7, 22), is here assigned on the basis of the recorded conodont assemblage, especially those of Icriodus ex gr. corniger Wittekindt (Fig. 4). A detailed analysis of conodonts of that group showed that they display morphological features close to those of taxa belonging to assemblage Icriodus corniger aff., I. fusiformis - I. rectirostratus Bultynck 1972. In the Devonian of Belgium, this assemblage is typical of the Co Ia zone (the lowermost Couvin), corresponding to the uppermost Emsian in the German subdivision (10).
