Abstract

CARBONIFEROUS MACROFAUNA HORIZONS IN THE DOBIESZOWICE-SĄCZÓW REGION Summary The paper presents stratigraphy and characteristics of faunistic horizons, based on studies on faunistic material from three exploratory drillings made in the Dobieszowice -Sączów area in the years 1979-1981. The area is situated in northern, peripheral part of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin (Fig. 1). In the Carboniferous section (Fig. 2), there were identified faunistic horizons which correspond to the following beds in the stratigraphic subdivision of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin: 1) beds of lower part of the Marginal Group (= Pietrzkowice and Lower Gruszów Beds) - Namurian A; 2) Kijowice Beds - lower part of Namurian A - Visean? Faunistic horizons of the above mentioned stratigraphic units appear analogous as those recorded in the neighboring Kozłowa Góra drilling and in the vicinities of Gliwice, Rybnik and Ostrava.
