Abstract

PETROGRAPHIC AND CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF DIABASE FROM MT. NIEDŹWIEDZIA GÓRA

Summary
Diabase from Mt. Niedźwiedzia Góra (western part of the Pasmo Tęczyńskie, 3 km SW Krzeszowice) forms a sill dipping southwestwards at the angle of about 10°C. The rock is dated at the Upper Carboniferous, taking into account its occurrence among Westphalian shales and arcosic sandstones with muscovite. The diabase intrusion is regarded as related to the Asturian tectonic phase of the Variscan orogeny (3).
In quarry at Mt. Niedźwiedzia Góra there have been taken 16 point samples of diabase. On the basis of these samples there is described contact of diabase and surrounding rocks, visible in north-eastern part of the quarry.
